Nature Loo started as a small family firm in 1994 and have been selling, designing, refining and manufacturing composting toilets, mainly for the Australian market and its varied climate. The newly released Alectura comes with a stylish porcelain ‘drop through’ pedestal which makes it look just like a regular toilet, whilst the heart of the system is the low profile composting chamber which fits under the floor, requiring just 50cm of clearance.
The Alectura is a proper composting toilet system, designed primarily for Tiny Houses, Shepherds Huts and other structures that have some underfloor access.

The Nature Loo Alectura gives you all the comforts of home with toilet that fits into most styles and decors.
Open the lid and you’ll notice there isn’t a urine diverter, making it really simple to use – no need to guys to sit down to wee, and ladies don’t need to adjust their position. Everything goes down into the chamber below – that’s where the magic happens!
Under the floor is where the low-profile composting chamber sits, needing just under 50cm clearance.
Everything from the toilet pan above will fall into the external chamber. The twin wall construction enables air to flow around and into the centre, where composting will naturally begin. The dual mixing blades are turned once a week to level and aerate the contents, maximising the capacity and ensuring brilliant composting!
The inner chamber has a special base with a leachate drain to allow excess liquid to pass through. A clever ventilation fan (12v or mains) takes the odours and excess moisture up and away.
The Alectura Premium comes as a starter kit with two chambers, the porcelain pedestal, waste connection chute, dry material, and a trolly to make moving the chambers easy, even when full.
When the first chamber is full, set it aside (there’s a special lid) and swap the other container – you’re back in business in minutes.
When you finally empty the first container, you’re dealing with compost.
To most people in the UK, the word ‘Alectura’ won’t mean anything. It’s actually named after the Alectura Lathami – the Australian bush turkey. These funny-looking birds are actually great at composting!
Prior to mating, the males collect materials and build a compost pile that’s nearly as a big as a car! A suitably impressed female will then lay her eggs and use the natural heat from the compost to incubate them!
